This fast-paced, public-facing role is one of the first points of contact for most audiences attending the festival, so a high standard of customer service is a must. As the face of Summerhall Arts, assisting thousands of customers, audience members and companies each day, great communication skills and a big smile are essential! We are looking for people who can work independently as well as part of a big team, to ensure the smooth running of our venue.   

 What will you be doing? 

  • Supervising Box Office Assistants while managing the schedule/breaks for the day. 
  • Work with Box Office Managers on general tasks including: issuing and refunding comps, promotional offers and artist requests. 
  • Selling tickets, talking to audiences, giving advice and directions and recommending shows. 
  • Processing exchanges and refunds, using the Red61 ticketing system. 
  • Answering customer enquiries via email, phone and in person. 
  • Acting as the first point of escalation for audience issues/complaints. 
  • Troubleshooting ticketing issues. 
  • Taking the initiative to anticipate audience needs and facilitating the best and safest experience. 
  • Supporting the day to day running of the venue, keeping areas clean and tidy, keeping on top of lost property, reporting any activities that may risk the safety of visitors. 
  • Assisting audiences who have specific access requirements. 
  • Supporting the Media team. 

Who are you?

Summerhall Arts is looking for an Assistant Box Office Manager to work closely with our Box Office Manager, to assist in overseeing the Box Office during this busy time, while proving support and leadership to our Box Office Assistants and Supervisors. 

Who are we looking for… 

This job requires an enthusiastic, confident and competent person with proven experience of ticketing provision, staff management and a keen eye for detail. A suitable candidate will have the ability to communicate well with artists and promoters, alongside an ability to provide exemplary customer service.  

Main Purpose of Role… 

  • Overall efficient management of Summerhall Arts Box Office through ticketing software Red61.  
  • Assist Box Office Manager with show / website edits and updates. Liaise with the Fringe Society about show edits and updates.  
  • Assist Box Office Manager with training, managing and supporting the Box Office team. 
  • Assist Box Office Manager in management of ticket offers, complimentary tickets and show cancellations. 
  • Offer excellent customer service with the goal of achieving and surpassing sales targets and making the ticket-buying experience positive for our customers in person, online and over the phone. 
  • Working with artists and producers to facilitate their requests and provide ticketing support and guidance. Assist artists and producers in accessing their reports. 
  • Cash handling, digital ticket handling and troubleshooting technological issues. 
  • Supporting the Media Office. 
  • Supporting the day to day running of the venue, keeping areas clean and tidy, keeping on top of lost property, reporting any activities that may risk the safety of visitors.  
  • Assisting audiences who have specific access requirements. 
  • Ensure all issues are escalated to the relevant teams in a timely manner. 
  • Talking to audiences, giving advice, directions and recommending shows. 

Required Skills… 

  • This role will suit someone who demonstrates experience of ticketing work, preferably with knowledge of the Red61 system. 
  • Ability to communicate with a broad range of artists, customers and promoters. 
  • Excellent organisation skills, time management and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines and cope with high pressure situations. 
  • Proven track record in providing excellent customer service and comfortable dealing with customer escalation cases. 
  • Self-reliant and self-motivated with an ability to work effectively independently and as part of the Summerhall team. 
  • Strong IT proficiency, and an ability to learn new software and systems (WordPress knowledge is useful but can be trained). 
  • Willingness and flexibility to work irregular hours (weekends/evenings/public holidays). 
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and driven to problem solve in the first instance. 
  • Publicly represent Summerhall Arts in a professional and friendly manner.

 What will you be doing? 

  • Supervising a team of Front of House Staff in our venues including ensuring queues are managed, shows start on time and staff and patrons are well looked after

  • Ensuring staff timesheets are completed accurately 
  • Selling, checking, and scanning customer tickets and problem solving any technological issues that arise from digital tickets

  • Working with Venue Managers to ensure Summerhall Arts policies and procedures are enforced throughout our venues 
  • Completing Front of House show reports, ensuring shows are running smoothly

You will be managing the Front of House Team and daily Front of House operations to ensure the venue runs smoothly and audiences have an excellent experience. Organisation, great communication and the ability to have fun while doing so are a must. 

The role will offer a guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week during Fringe, but with additional hours in the lead up to Fringe to allow you to get to know the building. This can be discussed but would be anticipated as being 5-10 hours per week, from Mid-May through to late July. 

 What will you be doing? 

  • Acting as the first point of contact for Front of House staff, customers, clients and guests attending the Fringe 
  • Safeguarding visitors, guests and audiences 
  • Being responsible for the site and liaising with the Security Team 
  • Making decisions independently to ensure the daily running of the building is smooth and determining when issues require escalation 
  • Designated Fire Marshall on shift, and overseeing evacuations if required 
  • Assist and Support Front of House Supervisors with customer issues and complaints, acting as a point of escalation as required 
  • Handling guest complaints confidently and professionally 
  • Assisting audiences who have specific access requirements 
  • Delivering briefings to Front of House Supervisors 
  • Supporting Front of House Supervisors with any issues that arise on shift 
  • Managing and motivating the Front of House team
