Summerhall Arts Spaces: Paid Residency Opportunity

Summerhall Arts Spaces offers performative artists of all experience levels the opportunity to develop ideas, experiment with form and explore new directions in a supportive environment. Over the course of a year, we will offer 20 weeks of paid space and 30 weeks of free space, advertised in instalments. 

This application form is for the Paid Residency, which includes:

  • A dedicated creative space in Tech Cube Zero for up to 5 days
    • If the Anatomy Lecture Theatre is a more suitable space for your work, you may request to use it instead of Tech Cube Zero.
    • Venue specifications available on request.
  • A £500 stipend for the lead artist to support living expenses, travel and production costs (if applying for a full week of space).
  • The flexibility to apply for a shorter period at a rate of £100 stipend per day.

This opportunity is ideal for artists or groups in the early to mid-development stages of their work who require focused time and space but are not yet ready for public engagement. While there is no expectation of a final output, we ask successful applicants to provide one photo from their week and a short paragraph describing their work or process.

📌 This application is assessed based on eligibility and need, rather than the artistic concept itself. We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate that this opportunity will be beneficial to their practice at this stage.

Additional Information

  • No tech support is provided as part of this residency.
  • Artists must sign an agreement acknowledging our code of conduct, which includes taking care of the space.

The Paid Residency is offered year-round, with applications released in instalments. If unsuccessful, you are welcome to apply for our free space offer in the Anatomy Lecture Theatre.
