The Guimarães Rosa Institute Award announced
Summerhall Arts is excited to announce the launch of the Guimarães Rosa Institute Award is a brand new initiative aimed at supporting artists artists from Brazil, based in the UK, to undertake a festival-run. Applications are now open for the 2025 award, which will offer an artist or company a supported run at Summerhall during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The Guimarães Rosa Institute Award, set up by the Consulate General of Brazil, Edinburgh. is designed to provide vital opportunities for underrepresented artists, supporting not just their participation in the Fringe, but also championing diversity, equality, and inclusion within the arts.
What’s on offer
• A cash prize of £4000
• A guaranteed slot in the immersive/studio space Former Men’s Locker Room (19:50-20:50)
• 30 mins changeover either side of the performance
• Marketing Contra fee covered
• Fringe registration fee covered
• No minimum box office guarantee
• An enhanced 65/35 split in favour of the artist
Please note that the Former Men’s Locker Room is a former gallery space without Theatre Lighting or PA – so please ensure that the budget allocates amounts towards basic technical infrastructure. The award is only applicable to this venue and timeslot.
Capacity: up to 55 depending on seating layout; eg. 36-45 in Traverse.

If you are familiar with the building, the venue is very similar to the Former Women’s Locker Room – but without technical infrastructure. It does have two door entrance and will be draped.
