What is the Job?

You will work as part of our food and beverage team, supervising bar staff, across our 2025 Fringe bars at Summerhall: Dissection Room Bar, Courtyard Bars, The Royal Dick and pop-up bars across the site. You will have experience working in a busy bar environment, ideally as a supervisor/manager, with enthusiasm and a flair for customer service. A big thumbs up if you’ve also got your personal alcohol licence or barista experience. This fast-paced, public-facing position requires stamina, multitasking skills, and the ability to handle large crowds of thirsty Fringe punters.

You’ll also be expected to promote Summerhall Arts Fringe shows as well as offer advice and guidance on our food and beverage offering. We are looking for people who can work independently as well as part of a big team, to ensure the smooth running of our venue and bars.

 What will you be doing?

  • Help manage the food and beverage operations during Fringe 2025
  • Direct colleagues and delegate tasks and responsibilities
  • Serve our customers before, during and after shows with a variety of refreshments including food, coffee, and alcoholic beverages
  • Be the first escalation point for customer issues
  • Ensure the bars and public areas are kept clean and safe for staff and the public
  • Ensure the bars are fully stocked at all times
  • Adhere to all health and safety guidance, as directed by Managers
  • Digital payment handling and troubleshooting digital payment/POS issues
  • Support the day to day running of the venue, keeping areas clean and tidy, keeping on top of lost property and reporting any activities that may risk the safety of visitors

Who are you?

  • Enthusiastic, motivated, and hardworking
  • Prior bar experience and ideally bar supervisor/manager experience in bar or restaurant setting
  • Ability to problem solve and deescalate issues calmly and professionally
  • Responsible and reliable
  • Have a passion for the arts and an excitement for Summerhall’s Fringe programme
  • Able to work well under pressure and during very busy peaks of service
