First Annual Group Exhibition Callout

Applications are now open for visual artists to exhibit as part of the first annual Summerhall Art group show.
Embodying the Summerhall Arts ethos, this exhibition offers local, national and international visual artists the opportunity to exhibit up to three pieces of work, in the newly renovated gallery spaces within the vibrant Summerhall arts centre, throughout the months of August and September 2025, as part of our fringe programme.

Delivery dates
- In person / courier delivery: 27 – 29 July
- Postal delivery: by 4 July
- Installation: w/c 7 July
- Launch event: 25 July.
- Exhibition dates: 26 July – 21 September
- Artwork collection dates: 26 – 28 September
Important information
- Artists may submit up to THREE works in any size and in any visual art media.
- All applications are considered by the selection panel whose decision is final.
- Feedback cannot be provided on individual submissions.
- No reproductions of original work and no works that have previously been exhibited at Summerhall, or any other exhibition in the Summerhall building, can be submitted.
- Any work submitted must not also be exhibited as part of the Out of Sight, Out of Mind exhibition that takes place at Summerhall, this year in October.
- Artwork, including editioned work, cannot be included in any other exhibition during the opening dates of this exhibition. This includes in online/virtual exhibitions.
- Applications should be from living, currently practicing artists.
Important information if your application is successful
- All works must be delivered to the Summerhall venue by 4 July.
- If delivery is in person or by courier, delivery must be arranged for either the 27, 28 or 29 July.
- All works must be clearly labelled using the label sent to each successful candidate. String should be used to attach the label so that the label may be moved to the front of the artwork.
- An additional copy of the label must be inside the packaging of the artwork.
- Each artist is responsible for the delivery and collection of artworks.
- All works must be for sale, however exceptions can be made for audio visual and installation works. All sales are subject to a commission fee of 30%+VAT. The artist must clearly state the sale price, including the commission fee, on the label attached to the work.
- Artists will be notified of any sales prior to the collection dates and payment will be made by bank transfer within one month after the close of the exhibition.
- Each artist must submit a headshot, a 150 word bio and 3 x images of each piece of work to be exhibited for promotional use on our website and social media. A portal for uploading this information will be sent to each successful candidate.
- Before delivery of the artwork our agreement must be signed by the artist, this will be sent to each successful candidate.
- Summerhall Arts are not liable for loss, damage or destruction of any artwork submitted. Submission is at the artist’s own risk.
How to Apply
Exhibitors will be chosen through a panel selection and this year, supported by Creative Scotland, the application and exhibition process is free of charge, applications should be submitted using the form at the link below and can be made in either written or video format.
Proposals should be no longer than 2000 words and should include your artist bio, evidence of your previous work and brief description of your concept supported by sketches or a rendering of the final image.
